Lizard Press

Notes from the Artist:
Melissa is a graphic designer and has been teaching typography, graphic design, and book design for nearly a decade. Recently rediscovering the beauty of tones and textures of the letterpress, she opened Lizard Press Letterpress in San Francisco to indulge in her passion.

By combining vintage wood and lead typefaces with digital designs made into polymer plates, she prints each of her limited edition combinations on an old fashion vandercook V-4. Projects vary from rocking CD sleeves, inspiring broadsides, typographic greeting cards and intuitive artists books.

Her work has won awards and has been seen in galleries across the country. Melissa is currently inspired by signage, the sea, circles, wood type, recycling, trees, and peace. Be sure to stop in frequently to see what is new at Lizard Press!

Thinking of You

Notes from the Artist:
I try to keep things simple when I make cards. There is a lot of work that goes into simplifying and making it beautiful. This card has a wonderfully simple and elegant design, perfect for a wedding coming up or any loved one in your life. I have just recently started in the card making business. I am a full time special education teacher and part time graduate student in the day time and a card maker when I have the extra time. I truly enjoy this form of art and look forward to having more time to make cards this summer. Keep checking back with my shop as I am adding my newest creations.

MatiLou

Notes from the Artist:
My name is Anne Cresci and I am a French illustrator as a day to day job.
I have two kids and live in Lyon in the middle east of France.
My shop's name comes from my kids names...
Matis and Lou has become ***MatiLou***
I'm very fond of that name :)

I have studied Graphic design and fine Arts in a very good school in Lyon for 4 years. L' école Emile Cohl. Then I went to live a while in Paris, which I have totally fell in love with.

As a day to day job I have to do exactly what my clients want me to do, which is not always that much fun. And when I found etsy (which is not that famous in France ...) I just totally fell for it. What a great opportunity to share with people what I liked most to do !

LiSo Cards

Notes from the Artist:
When I cut out letters for my Ransom Note cards, I always end up with pieces of paper that are interesting in their own right. I keep the ones that catch my eye and use them to make beautiful, abstract cards. Well, I think they are beautiful and I hope that you do too. This modern topiary sits amongst grey grass. The red card makes the colors pop and adds that certain touch of funk. Everyone needs a little funk.

Just Another Day Designs

Notes from the Artist:
I have been selling on etsy since January 2006. I actually started selling jewelry since I really like to metalsmith but after a while I decided to list some of the stationery that I make and it seemed to sell really well. When that took off, I pretty much didn't have time to sell jewelry anymore! I really started to feel passionate about designing stationery and have not looked back since.

People always ask how I come up with new designs and what inspires me, I just tell them everything inspires me! When you drive down the street, just any plain old street, look around, you can see all the different shapes and typography on signs, the patterns the roads, buildings and earth make. Really inspiring stuff! I also love to look through old vintage books and ads, I am kind of obsessed with the 20s &30s era and it is slowly but surely seeping into my design work.

(Red Poppy Notecards are 5.5"x4.25" and printed on Neenah Paper. Set of 6.)

Bella Rose Creations

Notes from the Artist:
Happy Mother's Day to each and every Mom (and Moms to be). It is YOUR day!

When I design a card, I usually have someone in mind that I will send it to. The resulting card then reflects their personality or something that interests them. I enjoy custom orders because it gives me the challenge and opportunity to design something unique that suits that particular person.

This card was inspired by my mom and her row of multi-colored pink/white tulips. Each spring they 'pop' out of the lush, green grass so cheerful and fun. They bring a smile to her face and everyone else's. The tulip on this card is an orgami flower and it 'pops' out of handcut grass on a lovely handcut stem. It looks so much like the real thing I expect a hint of scent. Have a great day and take time to smell the flowers.

Notes from the Artist:
This perfume themed any occasion card is one of my favorites. I have a passion for paper and love how this paper from DCWV combines the trendy combination of pink and black with texure, depth and feminity. Because I work in the perfume industry, I could't resist adding a pink and silver perfume bottle. All of my co-workers are wild for this card. I even have added different messages for our clients such birthday, thanks and get well. If you love perfume, there is a good chance you'll love this card.

Notes from the Artist:

Lemon Tree Studio

Notes from the Artist:
I love the combination of paper and fabric, my two most favorite materials...and this blooming flower has a little of both! I have been "sewing" on my scrapbook layouts for as long as I can remember and have always admired the way stitching on paper adds that little bit of whimsy. I also adore all things vintage, so I tend to add in a few vintage elements here and there. I especially enjoy knowing that my cards are going into someone's hands....to brighten their day, to lift a spirit, to say "hello" or thank you. All of my cards are one-of-a-kind creations, so if you're looking for something whimsical and unique, be sure to stop by! Have a happy day!

QuirkynBerkeley

Notes from the Artist:
My work is designed to be something that one person gives to another. I'm lucky to have a craft that has a personal role in people's lives, and that can so easily become a part of the story of people's lives together. Gifts are imbued with all sorts of symbolic significance in every culture, and I'm always interested in the stories that people tell me about how they've used my cards -- who it was for, why they picked that particular card, why it touches them in some special way. Giving a handmade card is an act of intimacy since it is touched by very few hands-- the hands of the maker, the sender, the recipient. Being its creator allows me a role in a beautiful ritual.

It feels good to be the recipient of hand-written correspondence: no matter what the occasion -- there's a strong emotional connection during the moments of anticipation, and when it is held and read; the mystery of what's inside the envelope, wondering what prompted someone to stop everything else in their life and focus for a few minutes on writing this note. Your full attention for a few minutes is a very special kind of gift to another person, in a hand-written note that moment becomes frozen in time.

A handwritten note and its words can be touched by both sender and receiver and is always intimate; a handcrafted card is one that is created with these things in mind, and it is very likely the only one of its kind. Its maker sculpts the card from paper and other elements into a montage that is simultaneously an act of self-expression awaiting an act of overlaying it with new meaning in the giving from sender to receiver and used for one, specific moment in time.
