Photo Finds

Notes from the Artist:

Although the sense mainly associated with food is taste, the sense of sight is also important. There is much beauty to be found in the foods we eat. Here I put my perspective on some beautiful vegetables found in my garden, turning them into photographs and creating notecards. A great item to send to someone who also appreciates the beauty in foods or they would also look great framed in a kitchen.

Pretty Pear Designs

Notes from the Artist:

An adorable way to send the ones you love off with these cute little notes. Slip them in lunch boxes, backpacks, or briefcases. What a great way to give a quick boost to anyone's day.

All of my stationery is handcrafted using fabric on the exterior and cardstock on the interior. I strive for a tactile WOW factor in each of my orginal cards. I love what I call "decorating" with fabrics to create one-of-a-kind unique, and elegant cards.

LiSo Cards

Notes from the Artist:

Inspired by a story I heard on NPR about kyaraben, these Love Notes are meant to be tucked into lunch boxes, purses, briefcases or books, etc. There are 5 Notes in all, one for every work or school day.

I use only old cards and cardstock, sewing thread, magazine pieces, and bits and bobs from past card creations. I'm thrilled to be recycling, upcycling and creating with these pieces!

brian kenny chicago

Notes from the Artist:

Recently, one of Chicago's more infamous "ladies who lunch" asked BRIAN KENNY to design a notecard set that totally encompassed her personality. Since images of pill popping, gin swilling, husband stealing, golddiggers are hard to come by, i went with her love of fashion instead.

The final result was a much softer side of Brian Kenny and one happy socailite!
I hope you enjoy this card as much as i enjoyed making it. This card is now available in my shop, so you can have a piece of Chicago high sociey of your very own!

j.fleur designs

Notes from the Artist:

Art. This is how I view stationery! I love selecting beautiful papers and mixing textures with gorgeous colors to make my creation shine. This is a hobby for me, but also a passion: I cherish each finished product, designed by- and exclusively handmade- by me.

The recent arrival of my second child, a precious baby girl, had put my Etsy Shop on hold, leaving my store somewhat empty. However I am now back to work, and would love to create invitations, announcements and even custom Christmas cards, just for you! I enjoy working with people to personally design the perfect product. Always dedicated to sharing art with the masses and promoting "snail mail," I believe a letter sent with a handwritten message is something to be cherished.

Beautiful Greetings Card Shoppe

Notes from the Artist:
This card has been stamped with a Penny Black stamp, embossed and then watercolored. I always add a 3-D element to my cards and this one features 3-D flowers and bees. All of my cards are accented with Ranger Stickles. I work mostly with penny black products and have just been invited by Penny Black Inc. to do work for their Christmas 2008 catalog. I am very excited for this opportunity!

I like the fact that something as inexpensive as a handmade card can make the recipient so happy. I chose this card because it combines my two favorite hobbies--card making and sewing. Notes from the Artist:
Beautiful illustrations from Albert Schramm’s "Der Bilderschmuck der Frühdrucke", reproductions of the German incunabula period [1450-1500AD] are accompanied by Tower lead type for the name of the herb and MrsEaves digital type for the most common herbal uses.

A small packet of seeds are also letterpressed with the Tower initial to complete the organic package for each card.

Quirky 'n Berkeley

Notes from the Artist:
My work is designed to be something that one person gives to another. I'm lucky to have a craft that has a personal role in people's lives, and that can so easily become a part of the story of people's lives together. Gifts are imbued with all sorts of symbolic significance in every culture, and I'm always interested in the stories that people tell me about how they've used my cards -- who it was for, why they picked that particular card, why it touches them in some special way. Giving a handmade card is an act of intimacy since it is touched by very few hands-- the hands of the maker, the sender, the recipient. Being its creator allows me a role in a beautiful ritual.

It feels good to be the recipient of hand-written correspondence: no matter what the occasion -- there's a strong emotional connection during the moments of anticipation, and when it is held and read; the mystery of what's inside the envelope, wondering what prompted someone to stop everything else in their life and focus for a few minutes on writing this note. Your full attention for a few minutes is a very special kind of gift to another person, in a hand-written note that moment becomes frozen in time.

A handwritten note and its words can be touched by both sender and receiver and is always intimate; a handcrafted card is one that is created with these things in mind, and it is very likely the only one of its kind. Its maker sculpts the card from paper and other elements into a montage that is simultaneously an act of self-expression awaiting an act of overlaying it with new meaning in the giving from sender to receiver and used for one, specific moment in time.

K is for Calligraphy

Notes from the Artist:
:: Sweet Tweets Note Card Set:: Meet MAGPIE AND WHIP-POOR-WILL! Two birds, two note cards; great for giving, sending or framing! Inspired by ephemera and obsessed with stickers, the birds were first hand cut from the 1948 volumes of THE AMERICAN EDUCATOR ENCYCLOPEDIA (published by The United Educators, Inc.; Chicago, 1948) and backed with industrial cellophane adhesive. Neurotic about details, I carefully cut out the name of the bird and adhered this to the bird image then re-cut & trimmed the bird itself. Using an 'older than me' Singer sewing machine, I zig-zag stitched a piece of black, fine-art paper to the front of the card. Next, the collaged bird is centered & permanently stuck to the card.(I ♥ STICKERS) Using a pointed nib pen and black, waterproof Sumi ink, I hand lettered the name of the bird and added my signature calligraphic flourishes. Each card is unique and an original and will probably never be made again! (Unless of course, I happen to come across the same encyclopedia set!) Cards are handmade with Italian paper milled by C.M. Fabriano Medioevalis. Two hand-lined A2 envelopes and coordinating envelope seals are included. Happy letter writing! Tweets and thank you for looking! xo, Katy
