Team Challenge - Father's Day

Last month's team challenge was devoted to mothers, so it's only fitting that this month's challenge is devoted to all those fathers out there!
Fathers Day is on June 21, 2009.
Here are some facts:
Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd of Washington thought independently of the holiday one Sunday in 1909 while listening to a Mother's Day sermon...she arranged a tribute for her father in June 19, 1910.  She was the first to solicit the idea of having an offical Father's Day observance.
...a National Father's Day Committee was formed in New York City in the 1930's, which was renamed in 1938 National Council for the Promotion of Father's Day.  This council had the goals of legitimizing the holiday in the mind of the people and managing the holiday as a commercial event, in order to boost sales over the holiday.  The council always had the support of Dodd, who had no problem with the commercialization of the holiday and endorsed several promotions to increase the amount of gifts.  In this aspect she was considered the opposite of Anna Jarvis, who actively opposed all commercialization of Mother's Day... Inspirational Spark will be a fortnightly inspiration challenge open to anyone, EtsyGreetings members and readers, crafters, artists, hobbyist alike working in any creative media, be it greetings or knitting, ceramics or painting, photography, even poetry. Every couple of weeks on Sunday a little idea will be posted for you to draw inspiration from for your creative work. You participate when you want, once or every time we introduce a twice monthly muse. Once you create your work come back to the post, leave a comment with a hyperlink to a photo of your work either on a photo site like Flickr or your blog, or even online marketplace, however linking back to a social networking media is better so people can get introduced to more of your work and they can leave feedback. This is a great way to connect to all kinds of artists and draw inspirations from all types of media. You never know where your next great idea may come from.

Our kick-off Inspirational Spark is... Rain. It rained here this morning after a bit of a drought. Everything looks greener. What do you think of when you hear the word rain? How would you illustrate rain in your medium? What emotion does it evoke? What colors do you see?

When you have completed your work please post a link to it in the comments below. Look for another challenge in 2 weeks. We look forward to seeing your creations.

Do you have a theme idea for a future challenge? Please pass it along to Karin.
