Friday Feature

We kick off the first Friday feature of the new year with matdi123.

1. Tell us about you and your shop.
I'm at stay-at-home mom of two little boys (Jack - 3 yrs. and Ethan - 18 mos.). I have been married almost 5 years to my husband Matt. We are Canadians living in San Diego and have been in the States for 4 years. We have green cards and are looking to become citizens.

My shop is called Not Your Everyday Cards and the link is www.matdi123.etsy.com

The shop is full of fun, bright, cheery cards. I charge $2.00 per card and most are blank. I have recently started making embellishments for other card makers or crafters to purchase.

2. How did you get started in your craft?
I've always wanted to be a crafty person but never had the confidence to do it. My sister is quite crafty and I guess I sort of lived in her shadow for a time since her stuff is amazing. But two Christmases ago, my sister gave me some card making supplies and I started making cards for myself and my family. Soon after I decided to get an Etsy shop and see what would happen. It hasn't been a whole year yet, but I'm pretty pleased with what I've sold and I've even done one craft fair.

3. What is your favorite material or tool?
My favorite material...so hard for me to pick. I just love bright colorful papers and card stock. I also love handmade Etsy tags. I use them often and buyers seem to really like them. I'm also a big fan of my Cricut paper cutter! It's great for cutting larger pieces of paper.

4. Where do you get your design inspiration from? It depends. Recently I have been making some animal themed items with inspiration from my good friend Lisa. I make my flower cards with my mom as my inspiration. I guess I make items with certain people in mind. I really love and miss my family and friends back home so it helps to think of them as I work.
