Welcome To The Etsy Greetings Blog Giveaway!

Today's giveaway is sponsored by Karista of Cards N' Crafts.
Karista says: "I love crafting of all kinds and often find myself drawn to fiber arts, both in paper and yarns. Cardmaking is a fun way to share a bit of all this with those I love and a great break from my typically chaotic days of homeschooling my 4 children. Enjoy this little but of love "To You From Me"."
This blank card is for use on any of those special occasions that may come up. It can be used for birthdays, holidays, thinking-of-you days, and any other time you'd like to share something special with a friend.
The card is carefully crafted with top-quality cardstock, ribbon, designer paper, and a hand- crocheted flower (available at http://sugaryarn.etsy.com/). It is lined with white paper and comes with a coordinating envelope.
To enter please leave a comment for Karista. A winner will be chosen on the morning of March 14, 2010 and will be announced in the comment section. Please be sure Karista has a way to contact you.
Have a great day everybody, thanks for stopping by.

Friday Feature
This week's featured seller is StudioFlowerPower.
1. Tell us about you and your shop.
Hi I’m Jackie, a single multi-tasking mom to a 9 year old angel. I make my very small living selling my greeting cards with real pressed flowers to boutiques across Canada. You can imagine between all the flower pressing I do, and design, production, sales, etc…I am not always as active on the Etsy Greetings Team as I wish to be.
I think creating art with pressed flowers is an art that has stagnated a bit over time and I like to think that I succeed in putting a breath of fresh air into this ancient craft!!
My shop presently sells my greeting cards with real pressed flowers . They are not prints; EACH card is made with real flowers. The cards are protected with a special film so that the flowers do not crumble off.
I am working on larger original pieces intended for framing (8.5” x 11”).
2. How did you get started in your craft?
I started experimenting with flower pressing about 10 years ago I started pressing the flowers with art in mind. I did a lot of research into flower pressing art and found that it lacked a bit of imagination so I thought it would be my goal to try and modernize things a bit.
3. What is your favorite material or tool?
Obviously flowers!! I love as the years go on that my pressed flower collection grows; it allows me to to try out new ideas all the time.
I also like working with papers and have recently been trying out stamping and “rubbings”.
I have recently been obsessed with old children’s books, encyclopedias etc. Sometimes I think I have too many ideas in my head!! Presently I am working on combining decoupage with the real flowers.
4. Where do you get your design inspiration from?
I truly believe inspiration is all around us, you just have to look for it sometimes.
I get inspiration from so many things; nature and art I guess are the two biggies. I just try and look at everything a little outside of the box and always with my flowers in mind…
I look at a lot of art books, from classic to contemporary. I surf the web looking at other artists be it etsy, myspace, art sites, pressed flowers artists etc…I am constantly amazed at all the talent out there!
Just open your eyes the inspiration is there!

Article: A Day in the Life
A Day in the life: RandomScraps
One of the best things about being in business for yourself is that your days are filled with the things that are most important to you. I am a stay at home mom of three- Scott is 7, Sierra is almost 6, and Venice is 7 months- so for me, that includes time for my kids, my husband and myself. Each day is different, but this is one example of my day that happened recently.
7:00 My husband wakes me up so he can leave for work. Usually, the kids are already up and getting ready, and by this time the baby has been fed and wants to play. I usually can’t resist running to the computer first thing in the morning to check my shop sales and my emails. After that, I get ready for my day and finish getting the kids ready for the bus.
7:45 The baby and I walk the kids down to the bus stop and wait with them. Once they’re gone we either walk around the block if the weather is nice, or we just head back home. Today we have errands to run so it’s back to the house for now.
8:30 We’ve finished getting the diaper bag restocked and eaten our breakfasts, so now it’s time to make sure all my orders are packaged up with everything they need. Once I run through my task list and make sure I’ve got everything, I load up the baby and head out.
9:00 First stop: Postnet. I have a mailbox at the local Postnet, which is my business mailing address and also one of my wholesale accounts. I check my mail, drop off my orders for shipping, and check on their inventory levels to see what kinds of things are selling there as well.
9:45 Next up, a trip to Office Max to restock some business and shipping supplies, followed by a stop next door at Kinko’s where I have my packaging printed.
10:45 Time to head home and put Venice down for a nap. She refuses to sleep anywhere, including the car, so I have to go put her in her crib. Her nap time is usually my computer time. I catch up on email, the Etsy forums, Twitter, and pretty much anything else I’ve left up on my screen to read. I follow a lot of blogs, and I get tons of inspiration from looking at what other people have done, so this takes me a while.
Noon Right around now Sierra gets home from school. Today she has gymnastics, so I have lunch waiting for her. (She’s gluten intolerant, so drive-thrus don’t work for us.) She changes into her gymnastics clothes and we head out.
1:15 Gymnastics. I get to sit for an hour and chat with the other moms. Okay, well not quite. This is when Venice is normally ready for her lunch, so I feed her while we are out.
2:30 Home from gymnastics. This is when I usually try to get things done around the house, like laundry and dishes. Not my favorite time of day.
4:00 Scott gets home from school, and the kids start taking care of their chores while I start to prep dinner. Mark gets home from work sometime between now and 6, and I try to time dinner accordingly.
6 or 7ish… Venice goes to bed and it’s dinner time. We always eat at the table together. After we’re done the kids head to the playroom for about an hour before bed and Mark and I sit on the couch. Tonight we have TV time, but that only happens a few times a week. There are 3 nights we watch TV, and 2 of those are only an hour each.
9:30 or 10ish Mark heads to bed and I head into my scraproom to work. I usually do my best work at night, so I try to take advantage of the quiet time. I am usually in bed by midnight, so I can start all over in the morning!

Article: Have yourself a Merry Little “Card”tmas
Thanks to Jenn at PinkStarDesign
________
We can thank John Calcott Horsely for sending the First Christmas card in 1843. The following year more than 25,000 Christmas cards were sold, quite a number for that day in age! Since then people across the world have sent Christmas cards to loved ones, family, friends and business associates as a means of keeping in touch and letting them know that you are thinking of them.
With email substituting so many of our contacts with friends, we certainly cannot let the practice of sending out holiday cards fade away. American’s still send out millions of Christmas cards each year. The average American sends out close to 50 cards and receives nearly that many in return.
Don’t delay in picking out the perfect Christmas cards to send to your loved ones. We’ve picked out a few of our favorites from the EtsyGreetingsTeam and welcome you to turn to this team to create perfect Christmas cards to send to your loved ones. You can certainly count on a smile on your loved one’s face upon opening these cards.
