Article: Organizing your Craft Space

Whether you make stationery or jewelry or quilts, keeping your supplies organized means you can create efficiently and with ease. After several months of planning, nearly a dozen trips to IKEA and weekends spent stacking shelves, I’ve completed the renovation of my own humble studio. Here’s a few simple tips, using samples within my space, on how to rethink your storage and maintain a pleasant place for crafting.

Office, kitchen & even garden storage containers often make great craft supplies storage:

Use plastic magazine and brochure racks for paper (including hard-to-store 12x12 size), rub-ons, stickers…

Glass cookie jars for ribbon scraps…

and mini flower pots for adhesives.

Create a space that sparks your creativity and keeps you motivated:

Why not use a map to keep track of your Etsy sales? I still have to put mine on the wall, but once it’s there, I’ll place a pin on the map for every time I get a sale in a new state. :)

Buy a motivating print, or design your own! My custom print came from SunAndPenny.

Show off your projects! I put my favorite cards of the moment in these little wall cubes.

Thanks for the great article. I am trying to get motivated to clean up my work space. I know I would be much more productive with an organized space to create in!

Great ideas. I loved the map idea. I have one for my travels...I am always intrigued by where my sales come from so I should definitely do this! Leave it to me to want to do the fun project first, I have to clean up and organize before I put any maps on the wall. Thanks!

Fabulous ideas! I love your space. Just the other day, I was thinking about tracking where all my sales are from, I love the map on the wall idea.

My office is definitely a work in progress, I have outgrown my small space and am looking to expand into another space in 2009.

I am in the middle of redoing my space as well. I actually get my big, and final, piece of furniture, tonight. I love the idea of the map! That is such a fun idea and something the kids will also have fun doing with me.

Thanks so much for sharing such good ideas!

wow Beautiful! I want to do everything you mentioned! LOL

I would love to see a shot of your workspace that shows the whole area! (Mostly so I can be jealous... My work area is so messy right now I hardly have a place to actually work!) ;)

Wow, great ideas for a functioning, creative workspace! Love IKEA, my office is completely done in their furniture. I also love using magazine holders for my paper. That way I can see it all at the same time and not have to go through stacks, I can just see the color I want and pull it out!
